What Type of Marine Survey Do you Need?

Marine surveys are performed for a number of reasons and the procedures for each vary to best suit your needs. CTECH Marine Surveyors perform the following services:

All services above are offered at competitive rates with a money back guarantee that your financial institution or insurance company will accept the report. (Note that this does not guarantee financing or coverage for your vessel).

Pre-Survey Inspection

Do you live outside the Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC geographical area? Are you interested in a boat located here, but are not yet sure if it is worth the time and expense to come check it out? CTECH Marine Surveyors will visit the boat and document it with photos and/or video and prepare a short report grading the boat from 1(Very Poor) to 10(Bristol Condition). This report is not intended to take the place of a Pre-Purchase or Condition and Valuation survey report and will not be accepted by insurance or financial institutions. CTECH Marine Surveyors always recommends a Pre-Purchase survey be conducted on any boat before it is purchased. See fee schedule for Pre-Survey Inspection. Back to top.

Pre-Purchase Survey

This is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition, overall operation and safety of the vessel will be examined. This covers structural integrity, electrical systems, the propulsion system, the fuel system, other machinery, navigation equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics, and overall maintenance as well as an out-of-water inspection and a sea trial. Compliance with ABYC and NFPA standards as well as USCG regulations will be addressed. See fee schedule for Pre-Purchase Survey. Back to top.

Insurance Survey - Condition and Valuation

This inspection is performed so that the insurance company and/or finance institution can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk regarding the boat’s structural integrity and safety for its intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats and periodically during the policy period. The vessel's fair market value will be determined and documented. See fee schedule for Condition and Valuation Survey. Back to top.

Appraisal Inspection

This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations and legal cases. Vessel condition, industry accepted pricing guides, published brokerage listings, current market demand and internet listings will all or in part be used to determine the fair market value and will be fully supported and documented by the research contained in the Appraisal Survey Report. See fee schedule for Appraisal Inspection. Back to top.

Damage Assessment

This inspection is performed to assess the extent of damage, recommend repairs, estimate repair cost, and if requested, possible cause. See fee schedule for Damage Assessment. Back to top.

Electrical System Inspection

Electrical systems on boats are often overlooked and neglected, but are on the top of the list when it comes to cause of onboard of fires. Stray currents that often are not problematic on shore can cause injury on or near a boat in water. Ever find yourself with dead batteries that ruin the weekend or some equipment that would not function as expected causing some frustration leading to time spent on the boat that was not as enjoyable as it should have been? Boat electrical systems are getting more and more complex with the advent of more electronic toys and devices and more creature comforts such as A/C units that require more electric power. CTECH Marine Surveyors will thoroughly review your boats electrical system to the ABYC standards and document any deficiencies that are safety related as well as make suggestions that could improve your boats electrical system performance and dependability. See fee schedule for Electrical System Inspection. Back to top.

Corrosion Survey

Corrosion on boats is inevitable, but with routine maintenance and inspections, it can be kept in check so as to keep your boat functioning as it should for many years. Whether you have serious corrosion issues or just find that you are replacing your boat’s zincs all too often, a complete corrosion survey of your vessel will help detect the possible causes of corrosion or just give you peace of mind that your investment is safe from this seemingly invisible force. See fee schedule for Corrosion Survey and Consulting. Back to top.

Phone Consultations

Purchasing or selling a boat is a big decision, and you might have a couple questions requiring concise confidential answers from a professional consultant. CTECH Marine Surveyors offers telephone consulting free of charge to you. Back to top.

Owner's Representative

If you are having a new boat constructed, extensive repairs done or a total refit, CTECH Marine Surveyors will act as your representative and inspect the work at crucial points throughout the process. Each visit will be documented with a written report indicating project status, scope of work completed and quality concerns all supplemented by supporting photos and recommendations.
